“Sharking for a Living – The Joys and Challenges of Putting Flake on your Plate”
Produced by Gary Kerr
Sharking for a living began in 1927 when four ton of gummy and school shark went through the Melbourne Fish Market. This rose to 1,500 ton over the next 20 years and stayed high for a long time. Eleven fishermen give us their insights on what it was like to be a shark fisherman, from baiting and handling thousands of hooks, to encounters with great whites, to long days of drudgery on deck.
